Secretariat, with jockey Ron Turcotte aboard, captures the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, NY, the final jewel in thoroughbred racing's triple crown. Secretariat's 31 length win was the largest margin of victory in Belmont history, before a crowd of 69,138 spectators. Secretariat became the first horse to capture the triple crown since Citation in 1948.
